Some years it's banks, others cars and this past year, perhaps to underscore some of the sagest financial advice ever given, "buy land, son, they ain't making any more of it", we have seen a substantial number of television commercials for real estate and ambitious construction projects being shot through The Network in the Cape, with clients from Hong Kong, Dubai and Saudi Arabia.
VIP Films, Dubai
Director Jorge Malpica (Metro Productions, Mexico City), working in collaboration with VIP Films from Dubai, shot and finished two extremely beautiful and post intensive commercials with us for 'Ajmakan' and 'The Land Holding'. Jorge's lyrical translation of the agency's vision yielded two very distinct and remarkably eye-catching commercials, which were heavily posted with Voodoo (click here to view reel)
, in Cape Town. We worked closely with Voodoo throughout the production process to ensure the smoothest possible flow through pre-production to post for these multi-layered commercials. Happily we were able to include the very gifted DOP
Vicci Turpin, from South Africa, on those films.

Off-Lo-Hi, Hong Kong
Alfred Hau from Off-Lo-Hi in Hong Kong also chose to produce his very individual and enigmatic production of two intricate commercials for the real estate project "The Cullinan", here in South Africa with The Network. It was a challenge and a pleasure for Art Department. Alfred made the shoot one of the very best, pleasant, and creative of production experiences. The commercials were shot by the versatile and speedy "Oceanic", a DOP from Hong Kong, with his pared down lighting Oceanic showed just how effective "minimalist" can be, without once compromising on 'look' or style.

Hyena Films, Hong Kong
Hyena Films, also from Hong Kong, were out stalking locations in the Cape on behalf of Standard Chartered Bank. Exhibiting the kind of versatility for which it is famous, our local landscape doubled up for the Rockies and a Canadian salmon run, leaping Salmon being provided by Gravitron special effects, with whom we also worked earlier in the year for magical water effects, and for very believable chilly snow effects for Bayerl and Partner, from Munich. The Standard Chartered commercial was shot by another local DOP - Trevor Brown.

Shower Film, Hong Kong
We also had the pleasure of introducing Shower Films to the pleasures of Cape Town's rich location menu, which persuaded their director Ringo Wong, to bring their production for "Le Deux Bleu" for the agency China Live! to South Africa. This ethereal and mysterious Alice in Wonderland-like commercial was also shot by, Cape Town based DOP, Trevor Brown. As with all of our shoots this year this one was smiled upon by the film-making gods.
